We’re not sure whether it’s possible to toilet train puppies from 3 weeks but we’re doing all we can to make sure that these puppies will be easy to toilet train later.
Now that the puppies are being weaned their mother is less reluctant to clean up after them. Dogs don’t like to soil in their beds and therefore we created a living environment for the puppies where they have a clearly defined sleeping area and a separate toilet area. We couldn’t achieve this in the whelping box and so we now have a large crate for the puppies to sleep in which opens into a run where they can go to the toilet.
We’re amazed that at only 3 weeks old the puppies instinctively want to keep their bed clean. They all sleep in a pile in the crate and on waking they walk into the run to go to the toilet.
When it’s warm outside the puppies have been spending a lot of time in the garden. Their bedding goes into the garden with them and they are mostly moving onto the grass when they need to go to the toilet.
