FAQ about labradoodles and buying a puppy
The questions below follow the Dogs’ Trust guide to buying a dog before considering getting a dog:
Can I see the puppies with their mum?
Yes. You will be able to meet their mother and also their mother’s brother, our other labradoodle, who is 6.
How old will the puppies be when they go to their new homes?
We will not allow the puppies to go to their new homes until they are 8 weeks old which will be on 5th August 2014.
How old is their mum?
Jasmine was 3 on 8th March 2014.
How many litters has mum had?
This is her first litter.
Have the puppies been wormed?
The puppies will be wormed at 2 weeks and 5 weeks. They will need worming when they go to their new homes at 8 weeks.
Have the puppies had any vaccinations? If so, when is the next dose due?
Our vet has recommended that vaccinations are carried out with the new owner’s vet as this gives you and your puppy an early opportunity to see your vet.
Does the puppy look healthy – clean eyes, ears and bottom?
Please come and see for yourself. We will expect you to look closely at the puppies when you visit them.
What should I feed my puppy? Do you have a diet sheet to take away?
We will give you enough food to continue exactly the same diet for a couple of days as well as a diet sheet that shows how feeding should change as your puppy grows.
What sort of socialisation or experiences has my puppy had so far?
The puppies will be raised in our home, in the kitchen and our garden. We are a busy family consisting of two adults and two children. We are expecting plenty of visitors, young and old, who will be handling the puppies. We have two adult labradoodles and a cat. In the garden they will become used to our five hens. These puppies will be very well socialised.
Can I return the puppy if there are any health problems?
You should take your new puppy to a vet for a health check within 48 hours. We will offer to take the puppy back at any point should you be unable to keep him.
Is the puppy Kennel Club registered?
No, because labradoodles are not a registered breed the puppies will not be registered with the Kennel Club. However, we will give you a Petplan pack to give you 4 weeks’ free insurance for your puppy.
When can I take the puppy home?
You will be able to take your puppy home once it is 8 weeks old.
